Founded in 1978 on a small industrial estate in Birkenhead, Adams & Russell are still operating from the same address nearly five decades later. The location turns out to be historically apt: Birkenhead was once a dominant force in British shipping, and shipping remains the principal conduit for global coffee trade.

Their head roaster joined in 2012, drawn in by the roastery's reputation for attentiveness to the coffee. They now roast over 50 origins across three ranges: espresso blends, single origins, and traceable single-plantation lots with SCA cupping scores.

The roastery is open to the public Monday to Friday. They are SCA members, offer certified barista courses, and hold Great Taste Awards including a Two Gold Stars for their Peninsula Blend.

Wholesale covers consultation, equipment supply and servicing, and bespoke blending with white-labelling available.
