Firebird Coffee Company is a speciality roastery in the UK with an explicit focus on sourcing coffee from farming communities in conflict-affected or disaster-affected regions. The founder, Henry, is a former Army officer who spent six years working in international development in conflict zones before starting the business.
The sourcing model is built on direct partnerships with producers in countries including Rwanda, Colombia, Ethiopia, Guatemala and Yemen, with an emphasis on transparency and accountability through the supply chain. The business makes a deliberate case for its model: many of the world's major coffee-producing regions overlap with areas that have been affected by war, and Firebird's argument is that buying from those communities is a way to have a measurable positive impact rather than a vague one.
Single-origin coffees are roasted to order and packaged in letterbox-friendly formats. The roastery is based in the London area.
