Hometown Coffee Roasters was established in North Berwick, Scotland in July 2017 by Andrew, who had been working in coffee shops and competing in the UK Barista Championships since the age of 16. Roasting started later, in June 2019, when the business bought its first roaster.
The operation has since moved to East Linton at The Mart Trading Ground in East Lothian, around 5 miles from where it began. In 2023, Rosie joined as co-owner.
Hometown is a small, owner-run roastery with a focus on quality and a self-described 'mindful' approach to sourcing and packaging. It sells online, runs a subscription service, and supplies a number of East Lothian cafés directly.
The competition background of the founder is worth noting as a signal of technical seriousness.
