Olfactory Coffee Roasters was founded in 2013 in Cornwall by a couple who started drinking specialty coffee during university there, frustrated by what the commodity end of the market offered. The name is a deliberate play on "old factory" (the building where the roastery was first set up) and the olfactory sense through which coffee aroma and taste are experienced.
They roast on two custom Diedrich machines built in Idaho, USA, which they use for profile development and consistency across production. Sourcing involves direct relationships with producers including smallholder cooperative members in Kenya and experimental varietal farms in Brazil.
The roastery sells online, runs subscriptions and has a café, with free delivery on subscriptions and orders over £25. They despatch the same day for orders placed before noon.
