Owens Coffee is based at Endsleigh, Ivybridge in Devon and has been roasting since 2010. The business was founded by Lorraine, who came from a biotech background and applied a methodical, iterative approach to learning the roasting process, including farm visits and extensive cupping before settling on her current approach.
The roastery describes itself as the first dedicated organic coffee roaster in the South West. All of their coffee is certified organic and Fairtrade, sourced from named cooperatives: KOPEPI Ketiara in Sumatra, APROCOYCE in Peru, AMPROCAL in Honduras, COOPAFSI in Colombia, Twongerekawa Coko in Rwanda and ANEI in Colombia.
These are not vague sourcing claims; specific cooperative names are listed on site. They roast specialty-grade coffee only, sell subscriptions, run wholesale accounts and operate a roastery café at Endsleigh.
The business received European Agricultural Fund support for its expansion to the current premises.
