Pact Coffee was founded in 2012 by Stephen Rapoport, starting from his home kitchen three weeks before his wedding and originally trading as "Your Grind". The business was built on the premise that conventional supply chains, with as many as 10 intermediaries between farm and consumer, leave farmers underpaid.
Pact was an early UK mover in direct trade at scale, paying premiums directly to producers and building the business around subscription delivery. Pact operates at national scale, supplying subscriptions and one-off purchases across the UK, alongside a B2B channel (Pact Coffee for Business).
They sell coffee pods, brewing equipment and grinders alongside their roasted coffee range. They do not have a physical café or roastery visitors can attend.
As a scaled-up direct trade subscription roaster, Pact sits in a different part of the market to smaller independent roasters, but the model and sourcing approach are genuine rather than marketing gloss.
