Pharmacie Coffee Roasters was established in 2014, initially growing out of years running coffee shops in Brighton, Hove and Kemp Town. Founder Rick moved the roastery to Lewes, East Sussex in 2021, setting up in a 1,800 sq ft warehouse on the Cliffe Estate — neighbouring Beak Brewery, whose co-founder Danny Tapper suggested the space.
The building overlooks the South Downs National Park and the River Ouse. The roastery runs a seven-days-a-week espresso bar, hosts regular brunch residencies with outside chefs, and operates a wholesale business alongside retail.
Pharmacie hosted the UK Roasting Championships in 2023 and has been represented at the London and Brighton Coffee Festivals. They work with Gold Mountain Coffee Growers and have made sourcing trips to origin, including Nicaragua.
Coffees are named after and designed to reflect their place of origin.
